However, SongDog is uniquely positioned to fill a void in the form of our Skilled Canine Companions Program. Our expertise in the safety-training method, sophisticated marker training techniques and our proven transfer of training program can allow us to train your dog to a level you never thought possible. A skilled canine companion is an extremely well trained dog, with excellent temperament and health. A skilled canine companion can be task trained to meet the needs of the owner and their family. However, a skilled canine companion does not work in public. A skilled canine companion can only go were other pets are allowed.Why a Skilled Canine Companion and not a service dog?
The partnership with a well trained service dog can be a wonderful, life changing event to a person with a physical or emotional disability. However, the tremendous amount of effort that goes into raising, training and eventually placing a service dog, can make it unattainable for many.
It is SongDog’s goal to fill the void between service dog and pet. Possibly, you already have a dog and would like help training specific tasks that would make your life much easier. Many times family dogs are thought to be unable to be trained to the level of a service dog. SongDog can help. Maybe, your child does not make the age limit cut-off or is simply not ready for the responsibility of a true service dog.
